Braden Holtby LGBT Support - Go Caps!
Let's get down to business. Braden Holtby is a beast. That's why they call him HoltBEAST. Yesterday he played his 300th game, while securing 29 saves for the win. Let's be honest, we've seen this show before. We go in to playoffs strong and then we fall asleep. Caps are 47-17-8 and are just one home win for the franchise record. We don't need to go down this road anymore, because I know you have the ESPN app. We are also winning this year. Duh.
I love him. There, I said it. It's not because of his amazing beard or even his sweaty long locks. Nope, it's because he's a good dude. Can we still say "dude" in 2017? Asking for a friend. His LGBT involvement hits close to home for me. Did you see the February 24th game at Verizon Center where he wore an "Equality [hockey] Mask" perhaps? Yea, I would have lost, it was put on auction and scored over 5k for the You Can Play organization.
In February, Holtby was named as Caps LGBT Inclusion Ambassador. What's that mean? Well that means he's awesome. NHL started a new initiative to bring LGBT visibility to the league. Check out the NHL's statement HERE.
Braden Holtby is no stranger to LGBT support. In fact, him and his wife hold it close to their heart. In a Washington Post interview Holtby said, “My wife has taught me a lot more about it than I knew before, and kind of broadened my views on a lot of LGBT community issues,” he said. “We’ve just gotten to know people in around the community, and the issues they go through and what they’re trying to accomplish. We’ve tried to support them in different ways to create equality, basically. It’s something that we both feel is an issue that’s close to us, an issue we believe in, and this is one way to show that.” Read more of a well-written explanation HERE.
Returning this year to walk in the 2017 Capital Pride Parade is the man himself; HoltBEAST. Here's a video of him walking last year while wrapped in a pride flag. Holtby, you're the man.
